Broadcasting to obsolete IPTV equipment
We were recently challenged by the Italian company Planet with an interesting case.
Planet is a system integrator from Italy focused on IP video streaming, innovative solutions for digital media and the new communication channels. Planet offers companies and organizations solutions for enterprise video, operations management services, holistic security.
The company needed to ensure the broadcasting of AVC/H264 streams to old Bedside Terminals that did not support AVC encoding.
The task for us was to transcode AVC/H264 streams to MPEG-2 in order to enable DVB-T2 broadcasting for two hospitals without having to replace their IPTV equipment, which was incompatible with AVC/H264 video.
We decided to install Elecard CodecWorks on servers in 2 hospitals to encode 18 AVC video streams into MPEG-2. This allowed us to organize reliable broadcasting to 900 bedside terminals and special set-top boxes.
One of the key benefits for the end customer was the significant cost savings achieved by preserving the old decoding equipment. By leveraging CodecWorks, there was no need for expensive equipment replacements, resulting in budget savings.
Another advantage of our solution was its quick implementation. Planet was able to seamlessly integrate CodecWorks into their existing infrastructure, minimizing downtime and ensuring a smooth transition to MPEG-2 broadcasting.
With our assistance, Planet successfully overcame the compatibility challenges posed by outdated IPTV equipment, allowing for uninterrupted broadcasting to the hospitals’ Bedside Terminals and Set-Top-Boxes.
